Every Taiwan household should maintain an emergency kit for earthquakes, typhoons, or other natural disasters. Store the kit in an easily accessible location where all family members know its location.
The kit should contain at least 3 days (preferably 7) of drinking water, approximately 1 liter per person daily. Non-perishable food should include energy bars, nuts, canned foods, and dry goods. Foods requiring no cooking are preferable.
Medical supplies should include first aid kit, common medications, prescription drugs, glasses (if needed), and hygiene products. Include flashlight, spare batteries, radio, phone charger, and backup power source. A whistle helps signal for rescue in rubble.
The emergency kit should also contain copies of important documents, ID, cash, and credit cards. Include maps, rope, tape, multi-tool, and other utility items. Check the kit every 6 months, updating expired items and replenishing supplies. Maintain separate kits at home, office, and in vehicles.
